4th Northwoods card!!

Finally, I have had a chance to create my 4th card (the daffodil) for my Northwoods Floral Cards - whew!  I really love this card because daffodils and spring flowers hold a very special place in my heart since I missed spring 6 years ago fighting for my life against necrotizing fasciitis (aka flesh eating bacteria).

We will be making this card along with 3 others for a total of 8 cards (2 of each design) on Saturday 3/8/14 from 12-3 pm.  Kits will be available if you are unable to make the class in person but you must call the store to sign up.

**I also made an error on the Copics needed for this class.  You DO NOT need to bring C3, YR18, or Y38 with you**

I am looking forward to creating with you!

Demo Day Card 2 Almost Done?

I thought for sure Demo Day card 2 would be a cinch.  I pulled out one of my newer Spellbinder dies that I've been dying to try.  Kaisercraft's Key to My Heart Collection roses paper really appealed to me so I want to be able to use it in this card.  Decisions, decisions.  Pink Frame?  Off-White Frame?  I am searching through my stamps for something appropriate and I'm not finding it.  So maybe I should use a phrase or sentiment instead?  This may mean a trip to Photo Scraps....stay tuned for card 2!

NEW CLASS Sneak peek: Northwoods Floral Cards

Here is a small sneak peek from my upcoming class featuring the new floral Northwoods stamps.  I love a beautifully drawn flower and this latest release from Northwoods has lots of wonderful flowers.  This class will be on Saturday March 8th from 12 - 3 pm and we will be making a total of 8 cards (2 each of 4 designs).  We will be doing a lot of Copic coloring.

Here is the first card (really hard to see the sparkle in my photo)...

Using this stamp....

I think this card would be perfect for a birthday, Easter, Mother's Day, sympathy, and on and on.  I can see the rose in lots of different colors too.

Card #2

Stay tuned for the other samples and a supply list.

I am looking forward to creating with you soon!

Looks Like the Making of a Demo Day Card

It is February 2, and time to begin preparations for February Demo Day!  I took some time off from cardmaking and so I'm now looking forward to getting back into Demo Day mode.  I've been playing  with Spellbinder dies (no surprise there), and found some pretty floral papers (my favorite):  one in violets/purples and the other with a very shabby feel to it with distressed roses in a pretty pink.

I recently purchased a Stampendous House Mouse stamp and was determined to somehow work him into the mix.  I chose to color the mouse in grays and with so many petals scattered throughout the stamped image, it was the perfect opportunity to pull in the purples/violets.  Who says you can't mix mice and flowers? lol  So maybe this is the beginning of card no. 1.

Card no. 2 is definitely heading towards more of a shabby feel.  My plan is to use mostly white cardstock and the distressed pink roses paper from the Kaisercraft "Key to My Heart" collection.

Stay tuned!

Shadow Box Update

Hi everybody!  Hope you are all enjoying our latest snowfall in the comfort of your nice warm home!  It certainly is the perfect weather for crafting, and I am pleased to report that I have finished my little shadow box!  I am just tickled with the results and it's just in time for February, the month of Love...

It didn't take much to create this little box of sweetness.  I used 1 sheet of G45 Sweet Sentiments as I initially mentioned, which I fussy cut.  I did change the background to a pink patterned paper from Kaisercraft's Key to My Heart collection (Charismatic), 1 sheet of cream cardstock for the lattice, which I cut on my Silhouette, scraps of cardstock for all the little flowers that are at the bottom of the oval frame cutout, some seam binding (my favorite ribbon), a little Wink of Stella, and the shadow box.  I am officially ready for Valentine's Day, although I think this box will sit on my shelf over my work area so that I can admire it all year long!

What are you crafting today?

Stay warm!  Alice I.

Photo Scraps closed on Tuesday January 21st

Fussy Cutting A Sweet Sentiment

Today, while putting away papers I purchased recently, I came across a beautiful sheet of Graphic 45 paper from the Sweet Sentiments Collection.  I have always had a soft spot for Graphic 45 papers...  I love the quality of the paper, the colors, and best of all the SMELL!  Yes, the smell...lol. No other paper smells quite like Graphic 45!

When a new line comes out, I buy it all...the 12x12, 8x8, chipboard and even some of the stamps.  I bring it home, I go through the pad slowly, methodically, studying each page and looking at all the details...and then I put it away!  I don't use my G45 paper pads...they get put away in their own little section.  If I decide to use any of it, I go back to the store and buy the sheets I need.  I think I would just be mortified if I pulled a sheet from my pad...because then it wouldn't be complete!  I know...don't judge! lolol

So I took this sheet of G45 Sweet Sentiments and decided I wanted to make a shadowbox.  Because I only had one extra sheet (not from my pad), I decided I had to make good use of it and so fussy cutting would be the technique of choice.  I found a wonderful neutral background to use as my backdrop from the Kaisercraft Art of Life Collection (another favorite) that was cream in color with a faint script writing across the entire page....yummy!  I pulled out my little detail scissors, magnifier (the ol' eyes need all the help they can get) and so far I've cut out the angel and the scroll.  My plan is to pull out my trusty Silhouette, create a lattice the size of the shadowbox, and create an oval opening to reveal the angel.  Maybe a few handmade paper flowers, a few butterflies and finally a phrase on the outside glass in vinyl.  In my head this all looks perfect....let's see how this plays out...lol.  Will return to share the final piece!

Next time you're at Photo Scraps, sneak over to the Graphic 45 section and discretely take a whiff of the Graphic 45 paper.  Tell me it doesn't have a smell of it's own!  lol

New House Canvases from Susan and Tracy

Hi Everyone,

I had two fun ladies take my canvas house class today.  They got messy and we not afraid of using bright colors.

Here is Susan and her canvas.  The walkway was wet so she couldn't tip it higher.
Tracy got to play with modeling cream, stencils, sprays, markers, stains and even distress ink.  She is going to add some Stickles when she gets home because everything is better with glitter.

Word of the Year Canvases

Hi Everyone,

Have you embraced you word of the year? Our church has embraced the idea that picking a word of the year as inspiration to guide you thru the year is easier that trying to keep New Years resolutions.  I got together with my bible study group the other night to make canvases of our words.

Here is what Jimmy Page had to say about the word of the year.  The start of each new year gives us the opportunity to both look back and look ahead. We all want our life to count. When you discover and live out the One Word that is meant for you this year, you’ll find renewed mission and meaning. Throughout history, ordinary men and women who have lived with passion, purpose, and courage have left enduring legacies and have changed the world. So let’s discover the transformational power of One Word to create clarity, power, and a legacy that lasts.

Susan created a canvas for herself and two small ones for friends.

Deanne had fun with color and even used the modeling cream.
Dana combined stamping along with her sprays.
Diane combined some great colors, left some white space and got an accidental heart.

Karen (an art teacher) layered lots of colors with stamps and got a great dripping effect.
