We are closed for Father's Day, Demo Day Rewind Monday and Tuesday, Ethiopia Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all have a Happy Father's Day.  We will be closed to spend time with our families.

Ethiopia Update
I have been getting lots of questions about how Kirstin and Shon are doing in Ethiopia.  After a 13 1/2 hour plane ride they arrived at around 8:30 in the morning.  Kirstin was extremely tired because she could not sleep on the plane.

Here is a bit from the email she sent me.  "Today we visited two orphanages. One girl named, Yordanos stole my heart. (I didn't get a pic because we weren't allowed). I got to pray with her, do her nails, jump rope and make each other bracelets! I miss her so much. Pray for the spiritual warfare happening, that we will be present and love boldly."
"Tiebebu and I. Love this little boy(: #ethiopia"

ArtyStART Monday: Texture And Dimension, Image Transfer, Lilacs… WHOOSH

ArtyStART Monday: Texture And Dimension, Image Transfer, Lilacs… WHOOSH!

20130602-221542.jpg
Hello Monday! Ready for a little watercolor inspiration!
On Friday, I shared a little FREEBIE digi. If you missed it, you can find it here. I really love that little line art illustration and wanted to have a little fun with it in the ole watercolor journal. AND… give you and idea of how to take the freebie and go SUPERNOVA with it.
But… I’m a little lazy sometimes and I just want to get to it. AND, even though I could, I didn’t want to re-draw it in the journal. Super quick, and messy as all get out, I decided to image transfer it into the journal. You can see a little tutorial on image transfer HERE.  Super easy, and let’s me get to the good stuff right away.
When I do an image transfer, I don’t always pull all of the paper away. I leave a lot of bits and pieces behind. After applying color mediums, the bits and pieces really add texture. It takes the work from flat to supernova toot sweet.
Hope you’re having a super colorful Monday!
Supplies used: Peerless WatercolorsInktense PencilsGelatos, Waterbrush. Whole piece took about an hour. If you’re local, MD, you can get all of these products at PHOTOSCRAPS. Also, if you’re local, Peerless Watercolor is coming to PhotoScraps and I’ll be debuting in on Saturday, June 22.

So, I was on the road all weekend…and I had this amazing idea for a SEA inspired illustration that I was itchy twitchy to create. Before, we left, I was diligent. I packed up my sketchbook and my peerless…
Inspiration struck and I was ready to draw… and
BLURF…
NO Waterbrush. NO paintbrush. Wha? I grabbed the wrong zipper bag of supplies. WHA?
BLURF… motivation gone.
The next day on the beach I saw this guy with THIS shirt. I chased him down to snap a shot (no fear :) ). He was really cool about it. What a cool SHIRT. And, If MOJO is like a MUSE… I want to meet HER.
20130610-074252.jpgOn the way home, I flipped through my sketchbook, a little burned by the fact I forgot the supplies I needed to execute my idea. Then, I pinged off on IDEAS in general. I came across this and immediately thought of these words.

And… Its was OK! I moved on. This painting was going somewhere when I left it. So, I got a chance to revisit it and just think. Instead of DO… Just think.
Then, I fell asleep. HA! In the car. Sitting straight up. I guess I’m a better DO’er.HA!
That’s how MOJO works, eh?
Happy Monday. Hope it’s filled with MOJO!

Mixed Media Madness is Coming!

Mixed Media Madness Is Coming!

20130603-210618.jpg
There’s a HUGE mixed media class coming up this month at PHOTOSCRAPS. PhotoScraps Owner, Tracy Beck and I are teaming up for the day to share some of our favorite messy art techniques. If you’re local and interested in seeing what all the shizz is all about using different mediums this all-day workshop is for you. Call the store at 410.549.5187 to sign up. Class is scheduled for Saturday, June 22. From 11-4ish :)
An Art Journal is included in the class fee, $49. A
Tracy is covering the motherload of Dylusions sprays, Ranger distress stains, stencil techniques, collage and much more for your art journals. These products are the COLOR SHIZZ.
Oh, and there will be GESSO and Gel Mediums to round out the mess. LOVE IT!
I will be covering: Image Transfer, Modeling Paste, Inktense Pencils, Gelatos, Frantage, Shimmer Paints, Overstamping, Stamped tissue collage, Drippage and for the very first time at PhotoScraps…. PEERLESS WATERCOLOR. I’ve talked about Peerless over and over HEREHERE. HERE. and HERE.
Super excited to be sharing the Peerless Watercolors with you. I have a little post planned tomorrow that just covers the goodness that is… PEERLESS.
Here’s the two pages I’ll be sharing that day. Heavy on technique and mess. It’ll be a blast. I illustrated a special sHe for this class so we could whip up some modeling paste hair. Hope to see you at PhotoScraps.
